Stephen Febble is growing old disgracefully! And why shouldn’t he, given what he’s got to contend with? His immediate family is no help; a long suffering wife, an unhappy daughter, a tedious son-in-law and a precocious grandchild, not to mention the incontinent dog. All he wants is to be left alone but the weekend from hell looms complete with annoying neighbours and a rather odd chiropodist. Is it any wonder that Stephen reaches for the whisky and the sarcasm in equal measure?

LEONARD CHARLES

It was with deep regret that we had to announce that during the final rehearsals for The Weekend the sudden death of Leonard Charles had occurred. He had been due to give a magnificent performance in the central role of Stephen Febble.

Len was widely known and greatly respected for a lifetime of work in the amateur theatre. Equally at home in Shakespeare or farce, Len had acted, sung and directed to great acclaim on the local stage for over 40 years.

Redbridge Stage Company, with the permission of Len’s family, decided to continue with the production. A “dark” theatre and a disappointed audience would not have suited Len and so, to the memory of his light and warmth, this production was respectfully and lovingly dedicated.
