GLORIOUS!

by

Peter Quilter

Question : Before The X Factor how did a committed singer follow her dream?
Answer : By hiring venues and putting on her own sold out concerts.

Unlikely? Not if you’re Florence Foster Jenkins, rich American socialite and devotee of the opera. Glorious! is the hilarious true story of one woman’s bid for immortality in 1940s New York. Neither does she let the fact that she possesses a truly awful voice hold her back. Known at the time as “the diva of din” Florence’s story is both very funny and touching as she makes preparations for her greatest triumph at Carnegie Hall. A slice of history, unfortunately never captured for posterity, comes to life and demonstrates why Madame Jenkins triumphantly proclaims “People may say I can't sing, but no one can ever say I didn’t sing.”

Audience reaction
