Ethel's three stepchildren, Titus, Lily Belle, and Samuel, are shocked to find out that their mother plans to set up a memorial fund with her money to fund the ridiculous dreams of other people. They arrange to have her put into a sanatorium where she meets several inmates, becomes friends with them and gains new insights into life. Meanwhile her children visit several times, flustered over the fact that she has taken all the money and hidden it; a wild goose chase ensues. The play had previously been produced by RSC in 1980. |
